Hi friends, I hope you’re having a great week! With spring approaching, my thoughts are beginning to turn from cozy indoor activities to outdoor living. In addition to planning my garden, I’m starting to plan how I’ll decorate our covered outdoor area for summer. I love making our patio feel like an extension of our home, with comfy furniture, lots of plants, and plenty of spots to rest a cold drink.  If you’re looking for ways to decorate your outdoor areas, today I’m sharing some beautiful and inspiring patio design ideas from Pinterest.

Patios are one of my favorite spaces to decorate, because there’s much more flexibility in style and design than indoors.  Outdoor spaces are the perfect place to let your imagination soar and try out new looks.

For example, if your interior style leans toward traditional decor, your outdoor area is the perfect setting to experiment with a modern, coastal, or eclectic look.  Who knows?  You might enjoy the new look so much that you’ll want to incorporate it indoors as well!

I do recommend choosing well-made, classically-styled patio furniture for dining and seating that will last from year to year.  That way, you can easily update your look with new pillows and decorative accessories each spring and summer.

Some things you might want to think about including in your outdoor spaces:

  • seating with deep cushions for comfort
  • overhead lighting to create a warm and festive atmosphere – think string lights, woven pendants, or outdoor ceiling fans with lights
  • pretty outdoor pillows
  • a cozy throw or two for chilly evenings
  • lanterns and faux candles for evening ambiance
  • a fireplace or firepit, if you have the space
  • outdoor curtains
  • umbrellas or other shade-providers like gazebos
  • outdoor area rugs
  • a place to rest your feet — Target is a great source for outdoor ottomans and poufs
  • a stool or side table to hold drinks and snacks
  • a bar cart or potting bench

Below you’ll find all sorts of beautiful porch and patio inspiration from Pinterest, including firepits and fireplaces, outdoor furniture, swings, decor & pillows, unique tile & flooring ideas, lighting ideas, plants & flowers, and patio ideas on a budget.

Even if you live in a townhouse or have a small or narrow backyard garden area, you’ll find plenty of beautiful patio ideas in the pictures below.  Just throw in some flowers and plants and a warm breeze, and you’re all set for relaxed outdoor living and entertaining!
