Hi everyone! I hope you’re having a great week. My husband and I just started planning our next trip to Charleston, South Carolina, making this the fifth year in a row we’ve chosen Charleston as our spring/summer getaway destination!  There’s something about the area that feels so comfortable and inviting — like a second home.  Actually, we’d love to make Charleston our primary home soon–we’re ready to trade in our snow boots for year-round flip flops! In the meantime, adding a relaxed, modern coastal vibe to our current home makes me feel like the beach isn’t too far away! If you’re looking for ways to refresh your spaces for the new season with a light touch of modern coastal style, I’ve gathered several coastal home decor favorites to share with you.

The great thing about these items is that while they have a warm-weather vibe, they’re not limited to spring and summer decorating, so they’ll be classic pieces you’ll use and love for years to come.  Whether you want to add a touch of modern coastal style to your living room, bedroom, dining room, kitchen or bathroom, you’ll find lots of fresh blues and whites, stripes, natural textures, and of course pillows, to refresh your spaces.

Since everything here works in just about any space and any season, you can add them to your home right now to create a fresh modern coastal look that will last straight through the fall!

Coastal Home Decor Favorites

Baskets are my favorite home decor accessory.  They go with every style, are versatile and functional.  You can even hang them on the wall as artwork!  Here are a few of my favorite baskets:

Woven Textures

Like baskets, textured items add depth and interest to your spaces.  They also add a touch of warmth to the ubiquitous all-white coastal palette.  Here are some of my favorite items incorporating woven textures:

Pillows add the perfect coastal touch to your home.  I’m always amazed at how a little pillow rearranging can change the look of a room in an instant!  Here are a few favorite pillows with a modern coastal vibe:

Artwork sets the tone for the space, so adding artwork with a coastal theme is one of the easiest ways to bring a breezy feeling to your home.  Just be careful not to go overboard! Here are a few of my favorite pieces:

Light Woods

Light woods are one of the hallmarks of coastal decorating.  Like woven textures, light wood pieces help warm up your coastal haven.  Here are a few favorites:

Slipcovered Furniture

Not only does slipcovered furniture add a relaxed, beachy feeling to your home–it’s amazingly practical.  I love being able to remove and throw our slipcovers in the washing machine whenever they get dirty, which is pretty often with an English bulldog in residence! Here are some of my favorite easy-care slipcovered pieces:

As the foundation for your spaces, rugs are the perfect way to add a touch of coastal style to your home.  Natural jute and sisal rugs, wool rugs, cotton dhurries, and neutral Turkish rugs bring a warm, casual feeling to your home.  Some beautiful rugs that would work well in a modern coastal setting:
