Here it is, mid-October already, and I’m just now getting around to decorating our home for fall!  Maybe it’s the unseasonably warm weather.  75 degrees in mid-October?  And flip-flops are still a part of my daily wardrobe? I’ll take it!  Nevertheless, I decided it was high time to share a mini fall home tour with you, showing the simple touches of autumn I’ve added to our home.

Even though I love decorating our home for autumn, these days I keep it pretty simple. When our daughters were little and Halloween was a really big deal around our house, I went all out.  No surface in the house escaped my passion for all things orange and pumpkin-y!

As you’ll see in my fall home tour, I’ve toned it down quite a bit since then.  This year, I tried to incorporate colors that tie in with the rest of our home–which means mostly whites, greens, and blues–with a few pops of orange added here and there, just for fun.

I also tried to use things I already had around the house or–even better–outdoors.  The only exceptions are the little white pumpkins and buffalo plaid napkins I picked up at Target.  I just couldn’t resist!

Of course, I like to change things up on a daily basis, so by next week everything is guaranteed to look completely different.  (Make sure to follow me on Instagram, where I share my ever-changing home!)

So without further ado, welcome to my (mini) fall home tour. Is it perfect? No. But was it fun?  Yes!  And that’s all that matters!

Simple Touches of Autumn – My (Mini) Fall Home Tour

Here, I snipped some verbena from one of my patio pots, added a berry-laden twig from our hawthorn tree, and placed them in a tiny cocktail bud vase to make a pretty addition to the coffee table.

Our mantel is so tricky to decorate! Not only does the giant black TV detract from it, it’s very narrow, so everything I place on it has to be smallish.  White pumpkins, a friendly squirrel, and succulents–all from Target–helped save the day.  The candles and candlesticks are from World Market and the orchid is from TJ Maxx.

Once again, Target came to the rescue with sweet buffalo plaid napkins and white pumpkins from their Dollar Spot.  I simply added a sprig from one of my arrangements to add a touch of green.  Gold flatware from Target.  Place mats from Sur la Table.

Here’s another view, with slightly different napkins and plates.  The centerpiece is simply a platter from Anthropologie, a faux hydrangea, an antler, candles, and those cute white pumpkins again, all thrown together in under a minute.  Oh, about those candles.  Be careful when lighting candles around faux flowers.  I had a moment of panic when my hydrangea caught on fire!  Thankfully, we had water in our glasses.  I simply dunked it, dried it off, and placed it back in the centerpiece!  Who knew setting the table could be so exciting?

I love Anne of Green Gables, so the combination of this quote, “I am so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers,” and my vintage typewriter, which was a gift from my daughters, make an especially meaningful fall vignette.

Clippings from our hawthorn tree, with their sweet orange berries, add a cozy touch of fall to our hearth room.

Here are those clippings again just a few days later in the dining room.  I love how we were able to enjoy them indoors as their leaves changed from green to yellow.

More faux hydrangeas (this time I didn’t light any candles near them!), placed in a wood tray along with white pumpkins from the grocery store, make a simple long-lasting centerpiece.

The same centerpiece, with the addition of an orange Cinderella pumpkin.  I can’t decide whether I like the centerpiece better with the orange pumpkin or without.  What do you think?

A couple more views.  As you can see, I’m loving hydrangeas this fall.  I can’t believe I’ve never used them in my autumn décor before!

Sometimes, though, the most beautiful fall décor isn’t indoors, but right outside the window!
